About Bolton Cares

Bolton Cares purpose is a publicly owned, sustainable, not for profit social care company with a strong public service ethos. We provide high-quality social care services in Bolton and enable Bolton Council to meet the increasing demand for adult social care in a cost effective manner.

This has been a successful venture. Established in 2016 and set up by the shareholder (Bolton Council) in a way that was smart and forward thinking, the structure incorporates a Company B, which is our trading arm, and has enabled the company to grow significantly over the last ten years.

Our ambitious growth plans saw our turnover increase from £18 million at the start of 2024 to over £27 million at the end of the 2024-25 financial year. Our reach now extends to Wigan and Salford, where we have in the region of £3million of contracts in each area. Part of the Greater Manchester Framework for people to ‘live well at home’, we are now poised to extend our reach into new Local Authority areas.

Local Authority Trading Companies (LATCos) provide a great solution to the rising challenges of delivering social care – not for profit, but competitive on costs and fully democratically accountable to the Local Authority, they drive innovation, financial sustainability, improved service delivery and are rooted in local communities. Bolton Cares is agile and creative, connected, but independent minded.

Our People are what makes Bolton Cares great

Our dedicated colleagues are committed to supporting  people to have the opportunity to live the best lives possible, with more independence, and more choice. This is at the core of every decision we make.
